About Me

Hi, I'm Jon, a co-owner of blaq design as well as the webmaster around here. You can also catch me at my personal website.

I'm a professional computer programmer in addition to working at blaq design (I lead a busy life). As far as riding, I'm a mountain biker at heart, but I've got a lot of love for urban riding as well, being a city-dweller. Come summer, you're likely to find me riding trail in beautiful northeast Ohio or see me out doing urban on my single speed.

Here is a list of technology this site uses:

  • The site is written in ASP.NET in Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, running on the .NET 3.5 framework.
  • Portions of the site utilize the jQuery javascript framework.
  • The site uses the jQuery UI library as well.
  • Most of our image galleries utilize the cool ColorBox lightbox control.
  • On our back end, we use TinyMCE, a fantastic content editor.
  • There are many other controls and libraries around here, but I can't remember all of them. Regardless, we're all very thankful to all the others that have helped us make this great website.

New Custom Bags page

December 11, 2008

Check out our Custom Bags page, it's the newest feature on the site. We're so happy to showcase our bags, we've got them dialed in now and have production  up and running!

Gonzobikes.com Relaunched

November 10, 2008

We're proud to have recently relaunched our sister-site, Gonzobikes.com. There's not a ton of content over there right now (that will change), but I'm very proud of all the hard work that went into the site over a very short time. I'd say the site was designed in about the span of a week, including reformatting of the existing content. Now, we're going to start to port over some of the features you currently enjoy on blaq here. We're also going to start to formally strenghten the link between blaq and Gonzo as companies, so that the success of each of them helps the other.

Either way, thanks for taking the time to check out both sites. Until next time....

Internationality

September 25, 2008

So, we've finally got good site traffic statistics going now. We're able to track our traffic down to the region, country, and even city where you're coming from - pretty cool stuff, at least for us (thanks, Google!).

We're primarily popular in North America - no surprise there. I'd love to see some traffic from places like Africa - since we've started getting this detailed information, we still have yet to get a hit from any country in Africa. We've apparently beat the Great Firewall of China - we've got a few hits from China, though no orders quite yet :) We're running well in Europe, which we're very happy about.

blaq is slowly but steadily gaining visitors and sales - it's no shock that we're a small company and that we've got a long way to go, but things are looking good for us. Will we make a profit this year? No, unless something truly cool were to happen. We've invested a lot into operations this year that will take a bit of time to work off. Will we make some money next year? Hopefully!

RSS and More

September 09, 2008

So, since the last update, there have been a host of features added to the site. We finally got around to implementing RSS. We added content paging on the main page and the blogs. We're starting to work on a comment system for the site - it's going to be a pain, but it will be cool if people could comment on our news and all. Our goal is to be a bike lifestyle company with a focus on our worldwide virtual community (it just takes time to build this stuff, of course).

I thought I'd take a second to ask. Are there any features that you want with blaq design? Anything compelling that would make you more likely to buy from us (other than awesome, affordable products)? We're going to keep working on all our stuff, but we'll prioritize feedback from the our fans and customers, of course. Let us know by (for now) submitting via our feedback page.

Time to Shop!

August 20, 2008

The product catalog is FINALLY live!

We're keeping it quiet for a few days right now because there are a few bugs I've got to hunt down and kill, but they're nothing big, so we're live. In hindsight, I don't know that I'd write all the tech rather than getting a package, being the lone guy that's doing this job right now, but we're very proud of our site. We're even more happy to offer up our products for the very first time to the world, and hopefully we make a few sales.

My number one goal was to have the site up before my 30th birthday, which is unfortunately only six days away from today, but it's done and accomplished now :)
